Welcome to the Pals monthly blog hop! We’re so glad you’re here!
January is all about making “Art from the Heart,” featuring projects for Valentine’s Day, Thinking of You, Get Well, or Sympathy.
You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal.
When I saw the Needlepoint Nook Suite in the new Occasions catalog, my heart sang a happy note. When I saw it in person, that note became a full-on symphony.
With a lifelong love of needlework, this set of paper, stamps and embellishments combines two of my favorite 1,000 crafts. While I haven’t picked up needle and embroidery thread in some time, it’s one of the things I plan to start again this year, so, I was super-excited to feature this suite during this month’s hop!
To make my card, I chose Old Olive Card stock for my card base and layered a delicate floral design from the Needlepoint Nook Designer Series Paper on top using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
I love how the paper features different embroidered patterns and stitches:
Next, I made a smaller layer using Old Olive card stock and the Old Olive stitched pattern from the same paper. I then adhered it to the card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
To make the main element on this card, I used one of the three embossing dies in the Needlepoint Elements Framelits Dies set on Thick Whisper White card stock.
To highlight the embossing, I chose Stampin’ Write Markers in colors to match the floral paper I used. I used the pen end of each marker to color the embossed “stitches” and then free cut around the entire design. I added Stampin’ Dimensionals to lift up the finished element. To add a touch of sparkle, I added a yellow sequin from the Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins in the center of the flower.
Next, I stamped the sentiment “sending you happiness & love” in Old Olive on Thick Whisper White card stock and cut it out with another die from the Needlepoint Elements Framelits set.
The inside sentiment, “know that today a friend is thinking of you,” is from a Sale-A-Bration set called Part of My Story. What friend wouldn’t love this message?
This suite has so many possibilities and I can’t wait to create more with it!

Here’s what I used to make this card:
Your card is so pretty and unique! I love that! I too do the marker on “stitches” so it’s great to see someone else do it. Cutting around that design is just perfect!
What a perfect showcase for DSP, stamp and die! This should have been in the catalog as an example! Beautiful card.
I LOVE how you’ve added color to the dot impressions in this design! Brilliant! ♥
I enjoyed your write-up, Denise. The multi-colored stitching is brillliant! You’re making me want this Bundle!
Very lovely, Denise! Great showcase for the suite!
So pretty… I love all the colors in the needlework.
I love how you used markers to highlight the stitched designs. It looks just like needlework! Thanks for sharing!
Lovely card, Denise! Especially the added color to the stitching.
Denise, this is such a lovely card! You used the different textures of the embossing paper along with the die cut perfectly 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Love how you colored the “punched” needlepoint!
I love how you added the marker to the stitched lines. Such a great idea!
What a great idea to color the stitching!
Beautiful!
Beautiful card. I was on the border on getting this bundle, but you have pushed me over the edge and it’s now on my next order list.
