Sweet birthday for Global Design Project 001

I love doing card challenges. They inspire me to think outside the box. They jump start my creativity when I’m not feeling very creative. And, they give me the chance to see how other people interpret the colors/sketch/whatever the design teams throw out there.

So, of course I was excited to hear about Global Design Project, a new challenge which features many of my favorite designers from around the world, including my upline, Brian King.

The inaugural challenge is a sweet color (colour) challenge:

I needed a birthday card, so I reached for Sprinkles of Life, the Stampin’ Up! set that benefits The Ronald McDonald House. Because I didn’t have any DSP with all of these colors, I made my own by using my Stampin’ Write Markers to color in the hearts from a sheet of Everyday Chic Designer Series Paper.

I had a hard time deciding whether to use the ice cream cone, the cupcake or the flower basket for my image. As you can see, the flower basket won out, mainly because I hadn’t yet used it, although I think this card would have worked with any of them.

The label with the words “Happy Birthday” is punched using the Bow Builder Punch, and finished off with Smoky Slate Candy Dots from the Neutrals pack.

This card is on its way to my cousin, who will be celebrating the last year of her 40’s this month. Time has flown since the days we spent hours playing Barbies at my grandmother’s house during our summer breaks!

Here’s what I used to make this card:
