Sweet and simple memories for the July Pals Blog Hop

Pals Hop

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for July!

This month we are excited to show off the new 2015 – 2017 Stampin’ Up! In Colors: Cucumber Crush, Delightful Dijon, Mint Macaron, Tip Top Taupe and Watermelon Wonder. The In Color product line includes cardstock, Designer Series Paper, ribbon and other embellishments.

We hope you find great inspiration for using these beautiful new colors from the projects on the hop!

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Shawn de Oliveira at Shawn Stamps, number 27 on the Pals Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects.

Every time I sign up for a Pals Blog Hop, I get a little (OK, a lot) stressed out worrying about coming up with a project worthy of being seen by the masses. This time was no exception.

I thought about trying fancy folds, intricate shapes, detailed embellishments and finding that elusive white whale, SOMETHING THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE.

After a handful of “fails” I stopped the madness, took a deep breath and considered the projects I have been working on lately —  nostalgic and simple cards with simple sentiments. This is where my head is as I approach my 50th birthday next month.

The new Designer Series Paper selections, especially the Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack and the Sweet L’il Things DSP, speak to my vintage-loving heart.

Here are three cards that feature some of the beautiful new In Colors, all on Very Vanilla card bases.

Spread the love: Growing up in the ’70s, it seemed like every song on the radio was about peace or love, including my favorite song at the time, “I Think I Love You,” by the Partridge Family (featuring my future husband, David Cassidy). For this card, I focused on Mint Macaron using four patterns from the Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack. The sentiment is from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set. I semi-CASEd this from another card I made, except I decided to use a starburst pattern instead of paper strips and scaled down the butterfly by using a Framelit from the Bold Butterfly Framelits Dies.

Sweet as can be: When my sisters and I were kids, we used to look forward to my mom’s strawberry shortcake. It was always a challenge to get the perfect ratio of cake, whipped cream and strawberries. To this day, it’s still one of my favorite desserts. For this card, I focused on Watermelon Wonder, using three patterns from the Sweet L’il Things Designer Series Paper. I cut out one of the strawberries and enhanced it with Crystal Effects. The sentiment is from the retired stamp set From the Garden. Only I didn’t realize it was retired until after I made this card. If you don’t own this set, you can substitute with another greeting or use the Alphabet Rotary Stamp (on my wish list!) to make up your own.

You are my sunshine: I loved singing this song to my kids when they were young. Now they are all in their 20’s and I can’t believe time went by that quickly. This card features Delightful Dijon, with some Hello Honey mixed in for contrast. The paper is from the Sweet L’il Things DSP and the Bohemian DSP. The sentiment and sun are from the Over the Rainbow stamp set, one of my favorites.

I hope you enjoyed your visit here. I certainly enjoyed reminiscing while sharing my projects.

The next stop is Jane Knudsen at see jane stamp, number 1 on the Pals Blog Hop. Thanks for visiting; I hope to see you on next month’s Pals Hop!

  1. Love your cards! Your trip down memory lane brought back memories for me as well — down to singing the same songs and watching the Partridge Family! 🙂 Fun times!

  2. Denise, I love your trio of cards here! They are all perfect showcases for the new in-colors. I really loved reading about your memories for each of them. “You are my sunshine” is the ultimate song for kids, isn’t it? I know I sang that one to each of my kids – and still do when they let me! lol

  3. SOOOOO fun! I have forgotten about this technique but you certainly ROCKED IT! Love it…

  4. Lovely cards! You are obviously a master of combining patterns because these are spot on! We must get together and craft! 5 -6 hours is nothing to travel for crafting!!
