Oh Baby, Baby

Denise Hoepfner | themountainmagpie.com

It’s been a rainy day today, which would normally give me an excuse to craft all day. But, I’m moving in a couple of weeks, so the day was split by packing up much of my beloved craft room, keeping out those things that I JUST KNOW I’m going to need in the next two weeks (aka all stamps, inks, punches, ribbon…), and making a card for some friends who are expecting a baby boy next week.

One of these things was way more fun than the other. I’m sure you can guess which was which.

Anywho, I wanted to create a baby card without reverting to the stereotype “blue is for boys” color scheme. I pulled out my Sweet Dreams DSP, and was happy to see that the colors were different than the traditional pastels — Lost Lagoon, Hello Honey, Basic Gray. I realized I have never used Lost Lagoon as a card base, and my Lost Lagoon ink pad was still pristine, too.

I set about to remedy both these things.

I ran my Lost Lagoon card base through my Big Shot, embossing it with the Large Polka Dot Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I love this embossing folder; the big circles can be playful or elegant, depending on how you decorate the card.

I decided to use the duck stamp from the One Tag Fits All stamp set. I stamped a tag in Tuxedo Black from my Memento pad and cut it out. I colored the stripes in alternating Hello Honey and Lost Lagoon, using my Stampin’ Write markers.

Next, I inked the “Happy New Baby” sentiment on the stamp with the Lost Lagoon Stampin’ Write marker then stamped it onto the tag.

I then stamped the duck in Tuxedo Black and used the So Saffron and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write markers to color it. I cut it out with my snips and adhered it to the tag using a Stampin’ Dimensional.

I cut a strip of the Sweet Dreams DSP and adhered it across the card base, then attached the tag to it using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the flag embellishment, I used the three smallest Banners Framelits and created banners with two different Sweet Dreams DSP patterns and a piece of Hello Honey card stock that I embossed with the Lucky Stars TIEF.

I stapled the whole thing at the top and added a bow using Hello Honey Thick Baker’s Twine (part of a Sale-A-Bration embellishment kit) and a Lost Lagoon button from the same kit.

To finish it all off, I used my Envelope Liners Framelits Die to line the inside of the envelope in the coordinating Sweet Dreams pattern.

All I need to add now is the gift card for baby and big sister!

I hope to find time to stamp in the next few weeks, even though I’ll be dismantling one craft room and trying to create a new one. It will be fun starting fresh, and I hope to improve and better organize my new space in time.

Here’s to new beginnings!

And, here’s what I used to make this card:
