“And they called it purple love…”
Yes, I know the lyrics are really about puppy love. When I was a preteen I had a huge crush on Donny Osmond. I loved his puffy hair, his big shiny teeth, his high singing voice. And when I learned his favorite color was purple, I made it my favorite color, too.
So when I saw that Pals Paper Arts Challenge 247 called for three shades of purple, it took me back to the days of listening to my favorite teen idol on my little plastic record player, his face smiling down from the Tiger Beat posters taped to my walls.
Donny, if you’re reading this blog (and why wouldn’t you be?), this card is dedicated to you!
These are the colors in the challenge:
To make this card, I used a Basic Black card base and cut out four die cuts using the Striped Scallop Thinlits Die — one in Basic Black, one in Perfect Plum, one in Elegant Eggplant and one in Blackberry Bliss.
I glued the black scallop die onto my card base then took all the inserts from the three other die cuts and adhered three rows of each color in the negative space of the scallops.
Because I felt the background was busy enough, I didn’t want anything to compete with the design. (Although, I did try a lot of different things before I came to this conclusion.)
In my search for a sentiment that wouldn’t get lost among all the colors and pattern, I decided to go with the “hello there” sentiment from the Hello There stamp set. I thought it was bold enough not to get lost, but still simple enough as not to compete. I stamped it in Elegant Eggplant with a layer of the same color behind it. I popped up the circle using dimensionals to finish it off.
The most time consuming part of this card was cutting out multiple scallop dies, but at least I have three of them ready to be used on other projects.
I hope Donny approves.
Here’s what I used to make this card:
